The Cavaliers’ slate of games in the rest of December feature a bunch of home outings, and the Wine and Gold could feast. Cleveland's six-game stay continues Monday with a visit from the Utah Jazz, as the holiday season gets into gear. The Cavaliers didn't take top honors during the NBA's annual postseason awards distribution, but finishing high in several categories signals big things for the team's future. The Cavaliers had a 97.6 percent chance of landing the 14th pick in the 2022 NBA Lottery, and that's just how it shook out on Tuesday night in Chicago.
Cleveland’s home opener will be on Oct. 23 against the Washington Wizards. The Cavs will open the season on the road against the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 19. This is the second consecutive season Cleveland will start on the road. It will be an early test for each club with both expecting to contend for an Eastern Conference playoff spot. It’s also a matchup of two top-five picks in the 2021 NBA Draft and the top two NBA Rookie of the Year finishers in Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley.

It would surprise no one to say this could be a playoff matchup next season; this year it’s a team thriving while playing big hosting a team charting its own uber-big course. Stevens was previously listed as doubtful on the injury report prior to being ruled out due to knee soreness. His absence will push Isaac Okoro into the starting lineup, while Cedi Osman and Caris LeVert figure to see larger roles off the bench.
A first-round series would benefit their younger players in learning the nuances of the postseason and what a seven-game series is like. Many in the organization believed the Cavs could have made the playoffs last season if they had stayed healthy down the stretch. Acquired in an offseason trade with the Utah Jazz this past summer, Mitchell averages 29 ppg and is shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from three-point land.
Virginia Cavaliers Schedule 2022
Garland knocked down every attempt from the charity stripe and secured his second double-double in December. He's been a consistent source of scoring for the Cavs, putting up 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists over his last five games. LeVert played 38 minutes off the bench but provided very few highlights, turning in one of his worst performances of the season. Is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Mavericks, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The Nets are led by Durant, and he’ll be a difficult player for the Cavs to stop. Hopefully, Cleveland will get Jarrett Allen back in a few games but the absence of Dean Wade because of his shoulder injury could hurt the team in this game. Wade played Durant well defensively in the past, so we’ll see how things work out by then. The Mavericks come to Cleveland the following night on Dec. 17.
Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup tonight
Isaac Okoro figures to draw another start in Stevens' absence, while Cedi Osman and Caris LeVert will be candidates for increased roles off the bench. The final home game of the month will be against the always-overhyped Brooklyn Nets. They are led by Kevin Durant and the controversial Kyrie Irving. While that is welcomed news, since that time, Irving has turned into a very polarizing figure. These last three home games for Cleveland in December will be played against some of the biggest superstars in the Eastern Conference. This game could be a letdown game for the Cavs even though Sacramento is having a better season than most expected.
Las Vegas and Seattle are widely rumored to be next up for potential expansion landing spots, if the league eventually chooses to do so, but Silver was clearly impressed by Mexico City as a host again. And as Walsh touched on, the league could seemingly be getting to Mexico at some point, with the Mexico City Capitanes’ G-League team in mind, too. But when looking closer at the schedule, there are some interesting elements to Cleveland’s upcoming season. Their backcourt puts a lot of pressure on your defense, and they’re long. November was a good month for the Cleveland Cavaliers, with multiple injuries unable to stop them from going 9-7 to stay around the top of the league. Now the calendar turns to December, a month with tough opponents but plenty of home games.

Without Davis clogging the middle, Allen, who missed the last five games with a bruised back, made his first 10 shots and helped the Cavs take a halftime lead.
Mitchell, who has Cleveland fans dreaming of another title run, took over in the second half and scored 29 points with the kind of performance James had routinely during his 11 seasons for the Cavs. To do that, the Cavs must stay healthy and be more consistent. They won’t surprise teams around the league like they did last season. There should be another jump for Mobley in his second season, and the return of veteran guard Ricky Rubio will add depth and veteran presence in the backcourt.
This game will be a must win for the Cavaliers as they want to prove a point in this one because the Raptors are the only team that has beaten them twice already this season. Look for an all-out effort game by both clubs and a likely Cleveland win. The Cavaliers got beat up in the second half of their last game against Milwaukee and they will be looking for some payback. The Bucks are also just ahead of the Cavs in the standings so expect more star-studded play amongst many players. The Cavs also will have a game on ESPN Radio on Feb. 2 against Memphis, which also will be televised on TNT. The Cavs will continue the start of the season on a two-game road trip, following the season opener with a trip to Chicago on Oct. 22 to face the Bulls.
